A website can be as beautiful as the Mona Lisa, but with functionality like an unassembled sofa set.

Likewise, it can be as practical as a spreadsheet but also look like… a spreadsheet.

Building a website, animating a banner, or designing printed materials; the visual design is based on the graphic identity developed early in the process and maintained consistently across all media.

An extension of the website is the printed medium (or vice versa). A consistent layout on the brochure, leaflet, and exhibition booth wall elevates the brand. Truly understanding pixels/points and the printer’s parameters is crucial to delivering a good product.

A successful synergy between print and web is like having an extra gear.

The actual structure can be constructed in different ways depending on the website's purpose. Usually, a CMS (Content Management System) is used, especially to simplify editorial work during the site's lifespan. A CMS can also be a powerful tool as it shortens some processes with its flexible module use that would otherwise need to be built from scratch. The CMSs we primarily work with are Drupal, WordPress, and Shopify, with Shopify being superior for e-commerce.

In cases where a CMS is not used, it's because there are no benefits to using ready-made modules for the specific website. Every line of code must be written from scratch. A good example of this is campaign sites. They are often online for a limited period and rarely need simple editorial editing. Instead, they may have many custom-built features for that specific campaign.

One major difference between web and print is that we can’t rely on What you see is what you get in digital communication. The graphic identity remains the same, but the implementation needs to adapt. A key aspect is understanding how design translates into code and adjusting it for different devices and screen sizes.

In other words, start with pen and paper, but make sure the design works just as well in code.

Sometimes, a message needs a little extra emphasis on a website, or traffic needs to be directed to a specific campaign. Regardless of how and where the banner will be used, the craft of building it remains the same.

Banners make effective use of their own space, delivering maximum impact in a small area. Like video, they can be engaging, but with more dynamic options for creating interaction and reinforcing the message.

A website should be accessible regardless of the reader’s device or screen size. Responsive adaptation has been the standard for many years. Simply put, a three-column page on a desktop/laptop becomes two-column on a tablet and single-column on a phone. Some elements on the site can be scaled, while others may need to be redesigned, e.g., navigation.

In addition, responsive web design has another important function beyond aesthetics & user experience; it also impacts performance. Loading the right graphics for the current device significantly affects page speed. This is as important for search engine ranking as it is for the visitor.
